A constructive dispute identifies what is challenged and asks for a clear explanation. Do not assert a fee is automatically unlawful just because it is unexpected.

Subject: Formal dispute of SOR charges – [vehicle registration]

Dear [legal company name],

I have received your [invoice or quote reference] dated [date] for [amount]. I dispute [identify the items and sums] because [state the factual reasons, such as an unclear rate, unexplained dates or an increase between quotes].

Please identify the contract clause and the exact terms in force at signature that you rely on, together with the start/end dates, calculation and whether each charge is a fixed tariff or reimbursement of expenditure.

For expenses said to have been incurred, please provide invoices, receipts, account entries or other records supporting the amounts or allocation. Please also explain any differences from earlier written quotations.

I would like to resolve this sensibly. Until the basis of the disputed charges is established, please treat this correspondence as a dispute rather than an admission that the amounts are due. Please respond by [reasonable date].

Yours faithfully, [name]
